Commander's Message

Greetings,

On September 26th snowmobile drag races and a swap meet were held at the fairgrounds. We served brats and hamburgers and were the busiest food stand out there. We were able to donate $400.00 to help send packages to the Troops. The Honor Guard also participated at this function. Thanks to Steve Hoelscher, Bill Goette, Gary Anderson, Dave Mullenbach, Greg Stiles and the kitchen staff for helping make this a successful function.

We were able to donate $229.00 to United Way, Thanks to Gary Anderson’s brats and corn feed. Also again Thanks to all the volunteers who helped with this endeavor.

On October 7th we served food at our last Farmers Market for this season. We were able to raise about $500.00 to help with our daily expenses and stay current with our bills. We wish to thank everyone who helped with this successful season.

We are still waiting for the abstract to be brought up to date on the property to the south of the building. We will keep everyone informed on this project.

On November 2nd the High School Band will be hosting a concert for Veterans. All Veterans are admitted free. Please try to attend.

On November 11th we will observe Veterans Day. The activities will start with the Honor Guard presenting the colors at Southwest school at 8:15 A.M. There will then be a breakfast served at the Legion from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. At 10:30 we will march from the Legion to the Courthouse for a ceremony and speaker. The Legion will be open for noon lunch on this day. We invite everyone to participate in this observance.

Also, the Governor has now received authority for flags to be flown at half staff. This is for fallen Minnesota soldiers. This is why you may have noticed our flag at half staff as Minnesota has lost 3 sons in the last week.

We have a number of breakfasts coming up so we would appreciate anyone who would sign-up and volunteer for these.

Typically January and February are two slow months, so if anyone has ideas on how we can increase our business during this period please contact myself, the Club Manager or any one of the board members.

On a positive note our noon lunches have increased considerably, so stop in and see what Flo and her kitchen staff have to offer each day.

For God and Country
Rex F Stotts, Commander

Club Update

Todd Utpadel

Hello Everyone;

It has been an interesting fall so far at the club.  With October over it is now time to get ready for the Holidays at the legion. There are some club events that we need to make everyone aware of as well. First, on Sunday the 1st it is the second annual W.O.D. Dinner, this was a huge success for the club last year and Rex decided to continue it again as we still have some debt on the building to retire. It will be a baked chicken dinner with a cost of $25.00 per person or $40.00 per couple, running from 10:45 – 1:15. Also, on the 11th we are having a fish fry for the Montessori School.  Then on the 13th and 14th we are hosting the Does State Convention. On Sunday the 15th the TTT will host a Dad’s Belgian Waffle Breakfast.  Thanksgiving day we will serve Tom and Jerry’s from 9:00-11:30. The Red Cross will be having a pancake breakfast. Along with Christmas party’s, we will be very busy.

On another note. I was contacted by the New Richland Legion commander Eugene Worke. He, has asked for our help in the running of the Legion. I have declined that, however I have offered to volunteer my time in helping them. So, the rumors of me leaving and taking the staff are untrue. In talking with some of the board members and Rex we agreed that we need to do what we can to keep another Legion from closing it’s doors. They are currently looking for a full time manager and replacing of their current staff.

Thanks For Your Continued Support

Todd

Auxiliary News

A special thank you to everyone who donated to our Saladless Luncheon.  Our salad luncheons are our main fundraising efforts both in October and in February. Because of the concerns of the flu a decision was made to not hold the October event.  To those who have sent in their cash donations, again Thank You!!

At our November meeting we will be initiating new members.  If you have never been initiated please join us.

If you have any grandchildren or other service members currently serving anywhere we are in need of their addresses.  Please drop the address off at the Legion as we will be sending boxes in early November.

At our December meeting we will be sharing a pot-luck supper.  Please join us and bring a friend.  This is a great time to share the Auxiliary.  This friend may be a husband or a neighbor.  Also please bring donations for the food shelf.

Watch for special events at the American Legion Post 56.  Come and join in the fun.  Remember you are never alone at the American Legion Club.

For God and Country
President Pat
