Commander's Message
November is here, hopefully it will be as mild as October,
have no hurricanes and our farmers can be done by mid month.
There are a number of activities during the month.
First is the membership recognition dinner on the fifth serving
5:30 to 7:30pm
. We received numerous
compliments about the food after October dinner in which we served 300
meals, and I’m sure the quality will remain the same or better for
November dinner. Second is
Veterans Day on the eleventh. The
speakers will be Colonel Kip Grove in the morning and Ron Gabrielson
in the afternoon. Third,
on the twelfth, the club will be hosting The Great Pretenders.
They always have excellent shows and the cost is only $15.00
for the dinner and show. For
tickets just stop in the lunge or contact Arnie Mulso our 1st
Vice. Fourth is the
Thanksgiving on the twenty fourth, we will be serving Tom &
Jerry’s from
9:00am
until
noon
. All our Tom &
Jerry’s are made from scratch, we do not use a mix, and they only
cost $2.00. So come in
socialize and enjoy a Tom & Jerry!
Fifth is the November breakfast on the twenty seventh, serving
from 7:30am until
noon
, everyone gets plenty to eat and a chance to socialize before or
after church. Lastly
starting November 8th, Tuesday nights we are returning to
$1.00 burgers, $1.00 french fries, with all other menu items remaining
the same price. Tap beer
will still be $1.00. By
the way our lounge has some of the best beverage prices in the area.
So please come in and enjoy yourselves.
Starting October Twenty fourth we officially have a new Food
and Beverage manager. So
welcome Jason Kennedy! Jason
comes to us by the way of
California
. He ahs already worked
with us for almost a year so knows some of the ropes.
We have every confidence that he’ll make a great manager.
So come in and say hi, when you meet and talk with Jason I’m
sure you will like him. On
a similar note the Post is in the black, not by much, but we have all
the bills paid. Where we
make almost all our money is in the lounge.
The more lounge is mused the more money we make, so please come
in and enjoy it. One of
the things that has come up is our cable TV in the lounge.
It costs $175.00 per month and we are wondering if we really
need it. If it is
discontinued we will be on standard network TV.
If you have feelings one way or the other, just drop us a note
at the Club or get a hold of myself, Arnie Mulso, Dan Peterson, Bernie
Priebe or Vern Strand.
Thanks to the D.A.M. fund and Jim Olson, our adjutant Bernie
Priebe has a new computer and laser printer.
I have heard through the grapevine that he has loaded lots of
games on it and loathes to leave it.
Enjoy Bernie!
We are always in need of volunteers to help with various
events. These volunteers
keep our club rolling. Help
is especially needed for Wednesday night bar bingo and Sunday
breakfasts. Tuesday night
bingo still needs a manager, this a paid position, if interested
contact our gambling manager Kyle Olson.
Another note, the American Legion supplies pheasants to
Veterans Home and Hospitals each year for a pheasant dinner.
These veterans enjoy the dinner immensely.
The cost to supply a pheasant is $7.00, if you would care to
donate to this cause we would appreciate it.
Here’s hoping for an excellent month.
For God and Country

FYI
Our
American Legion Club is continuing to be an important social and
public service center and asset for the
Albert Lea
area. Proof for this
can be seen with the various activities being scheduled each
month. Some serve a
way for people to socialize, for others to celebrate special
events, and still other folks to raise funds for some really
worthwhile purposes.
Every
effort is being made to list these special events on the
calendar of this and other issues of the newsletter.
However, sometimes an events gets scheduled too late to
be listed on the calendar, or in the letters from the post
commander, auxiliary president, or kitchen manager.
Then the best way to keep tables on what’s going on at
the Legion Club is to check with what’s on the bulletin board
or new posters, listen to local radio stations, or read the
Tribune’s “Weekend Planner” on Thursdays.
Now,
let’s switch topics. Veterans
Day comes on Nov. 11, at Friday.
This year’s traditional observance may again involve
some changes. The
Freeborn
County
Government
Center
is now completed, except for the Veteran’s Memorial.
Thus, it’s going to be interesting to see what evolves
for the 2005 observance which will again take place at two
different locations, the courthouse (government center) and
Legion Club. Anyway,
let’s all hope we’ll be getting a day with good weather.

Well the holiday season is here and we haven’t had time to
finish the summer chores but I’m sure they all got scared away
on Halloween. November
brings about several important dates to remember like ELECTION
DAY on the 8th which is the basis for freedoms of our
great democratic country – SO PLEASE VOTE.
VETERANS DAY on the 11th remembers the signing
of WWI Armistice in 1918 and we celebrate the serving of all
veterans for the defending of our great freedoms.
Then of course THANKSGIVING DAY on the 25th
which we set aside to celebrate and give thanks for the great
fits we have. Speaking
of gifts, I and Post 56 would like to thank everyone who has
contributed this past year and hopefully you will continue to do
so in the future. It
may have only been a few dollars or more than a thousand but it
all helps in keeping the Legion operating so, Thanks Again.
Another way of helping is by purchasing a ticket to
“The Great Pretenders” dinner show on Saturday November 12th.
Doors open at 5, dinner at 6 and show at about
7:15pm
. Great time to help
give support to a veteran.
Just a side note is that on October 9th I had the
honor to be at David Everhart’s Eagle Scout award program and
thank you for your great project in helping support our troops.
Also, a reminder that our membership at Post 56 is
currently 744 or only 65% so please return your renewal and ask
a new person to join. Also
the membership recognition dinner in on Saturday November 5th
starting at
5:30pm
.
