Commander's Message

Greetings,

Summer is finally here as I have got both my dock and pontoon boat in the water. This is always a sure sign and I hope we continue to have a great summer season.

At our last Board meeting we decided to hold our Board meetings 2 times a month on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month. The Finance committee will be meeting with our club manager every week to review our financial condition and then report their findings to the Executive Board. If needed special meetings will be called to deal with any unusual circumstances that may occur.

With Todd designing new report procedures we are able to track our inventory and cash flow on a daily basis. This has proven to be very helpful and as it allows us to see our shortcomings and our strengths. I will continue to report these findings to our membership so everyone is aware of the progress we are making. We seem to be making advances in staying current with our weekly bills and paying off our notes at the bank.

With the finance situation getting better we are able to concentrate on other areas of our Post functions. We have most of the new lighting in place and the electricians are finishing up on replacing the remaining lights. This should save us a considerable amount of money in the future.

The Commanders project, which is replacing the carpet in the lounge and dining area, is coming along nicely and we hope to start laying new carpet in May. Thank you to those who have contributed to this fund. We are slightly over the half way mark and would like to be able to pay this off when the carpet layers are finished. I realize that this is a big project, but we need to keep current on our improvements to our property. Anyone who wishes to donate to this fund can do so by sending a contribution to the American Legion Post 56 or dropping off their gift at the bar.

Our district meeting will be held in Winona on May 22nd and 23rd and anyone wishing to be a delegate contact Adjutant Arnie Mulso or any Board member.

On April 17th we held our recognition program for our 50 and 60 year members. We wish to congratulate these members for their loyal support over the years.

Also on April 17th we recognized our Legionnaire of the Year. Congratulations go out to Bob Inderlie for receiving this award. Bob has been a Board member for a number of years and has volunteered to help with many projects at the Legion. This is well deserved recognition for Bob and we wish him well in the future.

Coming up we will be starting to make plans for Memorial Day, which is May 31st. We would like to have a large participation from our Legion, so keep this in mind.

On June 11th, we will be having our installation of new officers for the coming year. It doesn’t seem possible that it is that time again.

We again thank our members for their loyal support and encourage you to participate in as many activities as possible.

For God and Country
Rex F. Stotts
Commander

Auxiliary News

Welcome to spring. It is great to see flowers instead of snow banks.

We would like to thank everyone who donated or attended the salad luncheon. This is one of our main fund raisers. Last year we were able
to donate over $6,300.00. Thank you again.

In May we will be having Poppy Days, this will be May 27th and 28th. Please let me know if you can give a few hours to this project.  All monies raised are used only for veterans’ projects. Some of these are gift shop and dollar bill shower at the V.A. facilities at Christmas time.

A special reminder!! We will now be meeting on the first Monday of the Month. Our next meeting will be May 3rd @ 7pm. At this meeting we will be holding a memorial service to honor our deceased members.
