Commander's
Message

Dear
American Legion Family:
First, I would like to thank everyone for their support in letting me be your
Commander of Post 56 this past year. This has been a very long and yet a very
short year as time seems to just fly working with various projects and attending
meetings.
On an individual note I would like to congratulate Ruth Perry as being chosen
the Legionnaire of the Year.
I hope everyone will continue to support the Legion and it's club as it is very
important not only to the members but very important to the community. We need
to survive to help them as well as they need to help us.
Hopefully, you were able to attend the Post 56 breakfast (remember every 4th
Sunday) and the Memorial Day program which is a day we pay respect to our fallen
comrades.
June is always a warm month for family get togethers for graduations, reunions,
and the like so first since I missed wishing all the Mothers a Happy Mother's
Day I now wish all the Fathers a Happy Father's Day.
June bring installation of new officers which will be Sunday June 12 at 2:00pm.
Please come and support the new officers followed by coffee and dessert.
Legion baseball is on the move again so please try to attend a game or two. The
Legion baseball team will be hosting a basket night on Sat. June 19th. Please
try to attend and support the ball team.
Along the same line the Post will be hosting a breakfast again on June 26th from
8am-12:30pm.
Future events for the Legion will be Dept. meeting in July and National
convention in Mpls. in August. Are you interested in carrying a flag and
marching in the parade at the National convention. Contact the Post if you are.
For God and Country
Bill Goette

Auxiliary Members;
A reminder when you cut soup labels or any other labels be sure the bar code is
included. They cannot be used if the bar code is missing. Also, as tabs are
being used on other cans they can be taken off and turned in with pop tabs.
The American Legion and Auxiliary will have installation of officers on Sunday,
June 12th at 2:00 pm. Everyone is invited. At our June meeting we will have
recognition of our long time members beginning with 25 years.

Thank You: I would like to thank everyone that attended my recognition party,
the cards, and kind (mostly) words were greatly appreciated.
It was nice to see so many friends ,relatives, and all the Honor Guard in
uniform.
The officers and legion staff gave us a great dinner and an extra thanks to
Arnie Mulso and Bill Goette for their help.
It was great to see some of the old National Guard buddies too.
I will remember this as a great event of my life time.
Thank You,
Billy C. |

KOREAN WAR ERA VETERANS RECOGNITION AND EXHIBIT
The State of Minnesota has established July 27 of each year as Korean War
Armistice Day. As part of the local recognition program, area veterans are
organizing a photo display from Freeborn County Korean War era veterans who were
assigned to military units throughout the world in any branch of service in
support of military operations between 1950 and 1960.
The display will kick off on Sunday, July 17 with a breakfast at the American
Legion Post 56 hosted by the Freeborn County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 447
and continue on Sunday, July 24 with a breakfast hosted by American Legion Post
56.
Local veteran organizations organizing the recognition and display events are
the Freeborn County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 447, the American Legion Post
56, and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 16.
If you would like to share your experiences, pictures, slides or posters, please
contact the American Legion Post 56 at 507-373-7993 and a veteran member will
get back to you with further information on displays. You may also contact our
coordinator Dave Olson at 507-373-0791. Your experiences and display items
would be appreciated by July 12, 2011.
