December 2010

Commander's Message

Greeting American Legion Family;

First, a huge thank you as I am now at $6,448.00, just $2,452.00 left to go and at the writing of my letter we have 38 days left. So, please help me reach my goal.
Thank you to everyone who attended and participated in the Veterans Day events. It was a great day for us all to get together, to show our appreciation to all area veterans.

The gaming committee continues to meet and discuss options available for us to maximize gaming’s impact on the club. We are having an informational meeting on Tuesday the 30th of November at the Club. If you have any  questions or concerns please attend.

Both membership dinners were well attended. We have also decided to have a membership breakfast it will be Saturday the 18th of December, from 7:30 – 10:00. Look for the information in the newsletter. We continue to retire our debt with bank.

A special thank you to everyone who is helping to pay for the new refrigerator in the Kitchen. The S.A.L. and the Auxiliary have stepped up to pay for ˝ of it. Anyone else wishing to help see Arnie Mulso.

On December 4th we will be hosting a day of Christmas for the local National Guard and their families. We, will have a kids day from 1:00 – 3:00pm, that day and it will be open to all National Guard and members of Post 56 children and grandchildren. There will be movies, face painting, and of course Santa Claus with a treat for all of the Kids. That evening we will host a dinner for the Guard members and a guest.  For those of you that may not know, next year these members of our National Guard will be off serving our country at Christmas time, so we felt that as a Post we wanted to give them a Christmas to remember. The social hour will be at 6:00 with the dinner being at 7:00.

Here is your fun fact for the month;

Lately people have started asking for olives in their drinks. Did you know that each olive costs $0.18 each.  So, my question is. Do we charge more for all drinks, or do we charge per olive? Just a thought.

And, in closing. It is the hope and prayers that you all have a safe and enjoyable Holiday Season.
For God and Country,

Commander
Bill Goette

'Gaming Informational Meeting'  Anyone may bring your input in writing to this meeting if you wish and hear what the gaming committee has researched so far about gaming at Post 56 and what possibly could be done to improve the bottom line for business at Post 56.  This will be an informational meeting not an emotional meeting and will be for one hour or less.

Thank you.  Cmdr. Goette

Broadway.  Yes the menu is biscuits, gravy, sausage, peaches, coffee, juice.

Auxiliary News

The Auxiliary membership renewals are still coming in. If you have not sent yours in please do so soon. If know of anyone who might be interested in joining the Auxiliary have them come to a meeting or call someone from the Auxiliary and we will get in touch with them.

November 14th - 20th was education week. Every year the Auxiliary sends a treat for the teachers and the staff at the schools. This year we sent 48 dozen cookies to the 11 area schools. A thank you to Hy Vee for delivering them for us.

The Salvation Army red Kettle will be around the community soon. If you would like to ring bells for them call the club or come in and sign up for a couple of hours. We have been doing this for many years.

A reminder that the Auxiliary does not meet in January.

President
Janet Scherb
