Legacy Run

Leo Carey American Legion Post 56 hosted the Legion Riders for their 2010 Legacy Run on Tuesday and Wednesday August 24-25.  Also participating were other Freeborn County Legion Posts.  Well planned and coordinated post leadership along with numerous volunteers made this event a showcase in welcoming the Riders, national commander Clarence E. Albert Lea and Freeborn County will be honored on Aug. 24 by hosting the national commander of the American Legion, Clarence E. Hill.  Cmdr. Hill is leading 400 Legion Riders on this National Legacy Run.

The mission of the Legion Riders is to raise funds, to provide scholarships for the children of fallen soldiers since Sept. 11, 2001.  American Legion Post 56 is honored to host this overnight stop, and welcome these valiant Legion Riders.

Please join Post 56 in welcoming these riders.  Food and entertainment (the Community Band), starting at 5 p.m., will be enjoyed in the parking lost across from the Legion Club.  Cmdr. Hill will address the community in a special 30-minute program at Marion Ross Performing Arts Center at 6 p.m.  A $10 donation to the Legacy Scholarship Fund is requested, with tickets available at the Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce, Albert Lea Convention and Visitor’s Bureau and the American Legion Club.

Cmdr. Hill will be accepting donations from organizations, service clubs or any individual starting at 7:30 p.m.

Please come and show your support of America and the opportunity to support a scholarship fund for the children.  Bring your flags to wave, banners and friends and line up on Fountain Street as the 400 Legion Riders arrive at about 6:30 p.m.  Let’s all come to help show our support of recent lost veterans by saying hello to a veteran rider plus the many local veterans attending this event.

Legacy Run Update 8-1-2010

Can you help?  If you can, call or leave your name and number at the club.  National currently has 400 riders coming to stay in Albert Lea on Tuesday Aug. 24 and we will be serving them a pork chop dinner plus serving them breakfast the next morning so the word volunteer will be needed.  We will need help in the area of serving food, carrying food to parking lot to serve, table cleaning, set up and take down of tables and chairs to name a few.  More importantly, we want you to come with a friend or two to eat which will start at 5:00pm until all are served.  If you wish we suggest you may want to eat before 6:30pm which is the time the Riders plan on arriving.

You can't help, well can you stand on the street and welcome Legion Riders to Albert Lea?  We would like as many people as possible to line the sidewalk from Security Bank to the Fountain Lake park with waving U.S. flags etc.  Can line up about 6pm.  If you would like a different thrill, try lining the overpass on S. Shore Dr. and be there about 5:15pm as they are due to arrive at Albert Lea at 6:30pm.

Since streets around the Legion will be blocked off we have asked to use the old east clinic parking lot to help out for parking.  Lets make this a memorable event for the Legion and let National know we exist.

2010 American Legion Legacy Run

Leo Carey Post 56 in Albert Lea is happy to announce that they will be host to the Legion Riders for the 2010 Legacy Run on Tuesday August 24, 2010.  This could be the first and only time an event like this may happen in Minnesota so we hope you will consider taking part and show your support.

All posts are welcome to participate by attending the evening event starting about 5:00 p.m. with a meal and music by the community band and organizations and posts presenting the national commander with a donation for the Legacy Scholarship.  We invite all to attend and have a good time visiting and sharing and then making a donation to the scholarship.  Part of the fun will be visiting and looking at cycles that people will be riding to their destination of Milwaukee for the national convention.

The group will be staying over night which you may want to do also as Post 56 will be serving them breakfast starting at 5:45 a.m. as they will be departing Albert Lea at 8:00 a.m.  During breakfast there will be additional donations to the Legacy Scholarship.

If you have interest in helping other ways it could be riding with them but that will require registering with them as well.  Best way to check out information is to check the Legion web site and click on Legacy Run.
