Honor Guard |
| The Honor Guard unit
consists of approximately twenty volunteer members. It provides a
dignified representation to fellow veterans at funeral services,
ceremonies, parades and civic events. At each military funeral, a full
complement consists of 7 riflemen, 1 sergeant and 1 bugler dressed in
American Legion uniforms.
The main function is to attend church services for the deceased veteran and perform a 21 gun volley at the cemetery or what ever is deemed appropriate by the family. At this time The Flag of our Country is folded and on behalf of a grateful nation, presented to the next of kin. The bugler plays taps to end the service. The service is available for any veteran upon request by the deceased veterans’ family. It is initiated by calling the Freeborn County Veterans Service Officer. (Jon Rhiger 507-377-5184) In addition, the unit provides color guard functions at ceremonies, civic events, parades, etc. Any donations to the American Legion Honor Guard in the name of the deceased veteran is greatly appreciated.
